Professor George Dei to receive Paulo Freire Democratic Project Social Justice Award

Congratulations to OISE professor George Dei, who has been nominated by the Paulo Freire Democratic Project (PFDP) to receive its annual Social Justice Award at the 2019 American Education Research Association (AERA) Conference that will be held in Toronto in April.
This award is given to individuals and organizations that embody the life and legacy of Paulo Freire, a Brazilian educator and philosopher who was a leading advocate of critical pedagogy. Award winners are characterized by intellectual excellence, ethical concern, and deep commitment to the creation, nurturing, and sustainability of fair and just communities regardless of location.
Dr. Dei’s research includes anti-racism education, development education, international development, Indigenous knowledges and anti-colonial thought. His work in these areas has led him to be regarded as one of today’s leaders of in the field of critical education.
