The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education holds steady as the top Canadian educational institute with a top 20 spot in the global Times Higher Education subject ranking in 2021.

Now ranked 17th globally, OISE’s ranking score was assessed by 13 criteria, including its performance in teaching, research, citations, industry outcome and international outlook – with different weightings for each subject. Overall, teaching, research and citations are the most important pillars, each representing 30 percent of a university’s score.

“Our institute is a Canadian and global leader in education,” said Professor Normand Labrie, Interim Dean of OISE. “The latest ranking by Times Higher Education is a testament to the teaching prowess of our faculty, the depth and breadth of our programs and course offerings, and the global impact of our research.”

“I am so proud of our students, faculty and staff, recognized internationally for their ongoing effort to achieve better outcomes in education. As we look to the future, our community will continue to lead and transform education worldwide.”

Since the unveiling of education as a subject ranking in 2017, OISE has consistently ranked among the top public schools in North America and the top educational institution in Canada. In 2020, OISE was also ranked within the top 20, at 14th in the world.
