Professor Clare Brett appointed as Chair of the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Clare Brett as the Chair of the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning (CTL) for a five-year term effective July 1, 2016.
Professor Brett has a long and successful history of academic leadership and service within the Institute. She was a Senior Research Officer at OISE from 1988 to 2001 and was appointed Assistant Professor in CTL in 2002. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2007. From 2009 to 2014, Professor Brett served CTL as Associate Chair for Graduate Studies and also served briefly as OISE’s Acting Academic Director, Graduate Education in 2012. She has been a member of numerous committees at both the Department and Institute levels, including tenure and promotion review committees and the Department’s Initial Teacher Education Program Committee. She currently serves as Director of the Centre for Science, Mathematics and Technology Education.
Professor Brett is a distinguished scholar with a strong record of externally awarded grants and contracts, including projects supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Education totalling more than $1 million as principal/co-principal investigator and more than $6 million as collaborator. Her scholarship includes numerous refereed journals and conference proceedings, as well as technical writings/reports focussing on teaching and learning in on-line environments, the social and cultural implications of technology and cognitive perspectives on reading and writing development.
