New higher education resesearch centre established at OISE
Centre for the Study of Canadian and International higher Education will advance scholarship, and inform policy and practice

I am pleased to share information about the new and exciting higher education focus at OISE.
While OISE has had a higher education research and education function since 1977, many new opportunities through new hires, along with recent internal alliances with other related scholarly efforts, has led to the creation of the Centre for the Study of Canadian and International Higher Education (CIHE).
As the largest academic research and policy unit of its kind in Canada, the new centre will provide a focal point for external relationships with other Canadian and global colleagues and organizations and a point of contact for media.
Professor Creso Sá, the inaugural centre director, says that “the centre will stimulate research-informed dialogue on higher education issues and contribute to public debate as it investigates the critical questions in the development of higher education across continents: from Canada to the United States to Australia in the Anglophone world, to Brazil and China among emerging economies.”
Professor Glen Jones, an internationally recognized higher education scholar and currently interim Dean of OISE notes that “naturally, collaboration begins in our own back yard in Ontario. Our faculty has worked with organizations that include the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario, the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations, and the Ontario Council of Articulation and Training.”
As the founder of what was known in 1977 as the Higher Education Group, it is obvious that we have come a long way in our efforts to provide a centre of excellence in higher education scholarship.
