Professor Sherene Razack named Distinguished Professor of Critical Race, Gender and Citizenship Studies in Education

University of Toronto Provost, Cheryl Regehr, has announced that Dr. Sherene Razack, Professor in OISE’s Department of Social Justice Education (SJE), has been named as Distinguished Professor of Critical Race, Gender and Citizenship Studies in Education. Her work has been central in influencing many areas of social justice scholarship and policy, including current public attention to violence against indigenous women in Canada.
“OISE faculty and students are tremendously proud of Professor Razack’s stellar international reputation for social justice education and research. Canadian society at large continues to benefit greatly from her critically important evidence-informed racial and gender violence work, “ said Glen Jones, OISE’s Interim Dean.
According to SJE Chair, Professor Abigail Bakan, “Sherene Razack is highly deserving of this prestigious award. Her work has had a profound impact on scholarship and policy – changing the way we understand race, gender and citizenship in Canada and globally.”
