Remembering Anne Goodman

by OISE staff

Anne GoodmanThe OISE community gathered on September 3 at OISE to remember Anne Goodman, a lecturer, mentor and friend in the Adult Education & Community Development program in the Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education.

Anne was an internationally renowned peace educator, co-founder and President of InterChange: International Institute for Community-Based Peacebuilding, founder and coordinator of OISE's Certificate in Community Healing and Peacebuilding, and co-director of the Transformative Learning Centre, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

Among the speakers were several colleagues and students, including long-time colleague and friend Dorothy Goldin-Rosenberg, who shared tributes from many colleagues and friends whose lives Anne touched as a peaceful spirit warrior. Dorothy recalled her soft voice, her intellect and critical analysis, and how passionately she committed her life both personally and professionally both at home, at OISE and around the world.

Born in South Africa in 1950, Anne died on August 1, 2013 after a difficult battle with cancer. An obituary and special tribute to Anne was published in the Globe and Mail on September 19, 2013: Educator and activist Anne Goodman was Dedicated to Peace.
