OISE Professor Ruth Childs addresses admissions processes at Ontario universities

Professor Ruth Childs shared her research on changes to admission processes at Ontario universities at a February 12 OISE brown bag lunch. Universities have launched initiatives to reduce barriers to postsecondary education for underrepresented groups. But to what extent have these initiatives been successful? How do universities envision the role of admissions processes in increasing access to education? To address these questions, Professor Childs analyzed application materials and interviewed faculty and staff in universities across Ontario. She uncovered unexamined assumptions about access that call for a systematic analysis of admissions processes and procedures.

Professor Childs is Ontario Research Chair in Postsecondary Education Policy and Measurement and Professor in the Department of Leadership, Higher, and Adult Education.
