At a January 29 OISE research brown bag event, Professor Jennifer Jenkins spoke on “Foundations for learning in the early years: the role of siblings, parents, and educators.” She explained that a caregiver’s level of responsiveness is a key predictor of a child’s emotional and intellectual development. But what does sensitive, responsive interaction look like? And how can caregivers tune in to a child’s emotions and perceptions? Through her research, Professor Jenkins not only addresses these questions but also implements and evaluates programs that guide caregivers in supporting wellbeing and development in early childhood.
