Centring sustainability, regeneration, and reconciliation demands collaboratively re-imagining the ways that teaching and learning occur across the University of Toronto. This spring, in-person retreat invites U of T faculty, staff and doctoral students to travel to the University of Toronto Mississauga campus to expand their understanding of Indigenous, experiential and place-based pedagogies as part of a shift towards transformative approaches to sustainability education. This day-long retreat, hosted by U of T’s Community of Practice on Sustainability Teaching and UTM’s Sustainability Office, provides focused time to learn about Indigenous ways of knowing and being from Dr. Anne Spice, as well as how sustainability initiatives at UTM support teaching and learning across campus. An experiential workshop with Dr. Julia Boyd explores how teaching that centres joy, care, and radically hope-filled pedagogies in our course materials can support students’ learning in precarious times. We invite you to build community and learn alongside colleagues dedicated to sustainability teaching across U of T’s three campuses. A vegetarian/vegan lunch will be provided. Please register by May 22.
Speakers:
Dr. Julia Boyd (UTM, English & Drama)
Dr. Anne Spice (UTM, Anthropology)
Beverley Ayeni & Samantha Dilorio (UTM Sustainability Office)
