Book Launch & Chat - Critical Theories and the Postsocialist Challenge: Race, Gender, Decolonization and Social Justice

Dr. Miglena Todorova's new book challenges you to reconsider how and what you know about critical ideas related to inequality, redistribution, race, gender, violence, and justice. It takes you on a historical journey across capitalist and (former) socialist countries and societies to illustrate why these well-established Anglophonic concepts developed mainly in the United States may lack completeness and political energy when used the world over. Written in accessible language, the chapters equip you with a potent original postsocialist method for evaluating these and other critical concepts across political contexts and academic disciplines.
Join Dr. Todorova's Book Launch & Chat to re-examine:
- How are scholars served by doubt, and by belief and trust in self-intuition?
- How can we hold ourselves to greater accountability as empowered speakers?
- How can we better attune our methods to the future toward cultural, educational, and imagination-stimulating spaces and modes of resistance?
The section includes the author's remarks, students' responses and discussions, refreshments, and a book giveaway. It is hosted by the OISE New Ideas Student Collective.
