PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES FOR YEAR ONE TEACHER EDUCATION STUDENTS

Description
This annual presentation is hosted by the Ontario Teachers’ Federation (of which all MT students are associate members) to help you understand your rights, responsibilities as union members, and to answer questions you may about student interactions prior to your first practicum.

These presentations are provided by experts from various teacher federations who are happy to answer questions and provide real-world examples to guide you before you begin your first practicum, and mandatory for all teacher education students in Ontario.

Many instances of teachers facing allegations of physical or sexual misconduct or investigations by the employer are often the result of alleged allegations related to professional boundaries. Thus, the workshop focuses on maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and implementing best practice to minimize the risk of a teacher facing allegations or disciplinary action. Video clips, day to day school scenarios and relevant legislation including the role of the College of Teachers and members Duty to Report are incorporated into this workshop to encourage all participants to consistently use best practices and maintain exemplary professionalism at all times.

Times and Location: Oct 12, 2018, 8:30am-12:30pm
