STAFF & FACULTY WELLNESS

The wellbeing of our community, including staff & faculty, is one of OISE's top priorities. We are working hard to enhance our wellness programming in response to our community's diverse needs, particularly during these challenging and uncertain times. OISE is committed to promoting learning and practice opportunities that contribute to both individual and collective healing and change.


OISE Fall Wellness Day - Wednesday, November 24, 2021

The wellbeing of our OISE community is one of our top priorities. Building on the popularity of our annual Winter Wellness Day for OISE Staff and Faculty, we’re pleased to announce our first ever Fall Wellness Day.

This year’s Fall Wellness Day will take place on Wednesday November 24th and similar to last year’s Winter session, will be offered remotely.  We invite you to reserve some time in your calendars from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to participate in as many of the below activities as you find interesting. We encourage you to take this time to practice self-care and promote your individual wellness.

You can show how you practice wellness by entering the OISE Wellness Day Photo Contest. Submit a picture of you or your team practicing wellness and you could win cool OISE swag!


Workshop: Managing Burnout | 10:00am-11:00am | Register

Facilitator: Jhanelle Peters

J_Peters The past year has been like no other and somehow many of us have managed to keep our heads above water. But what happens when you feel like it’s getting harder to keep swimming? What happens when you start to experience burnout? In this session, you will learn about the connection between stress, burnout and low moods.  In this workshop, participants will gain a better understanding of how to recognize the signs of stress and workplace burnout within themselves and others. More importantly, participants will gain a better understanding of how to prevent and manage the various components that can help one go from surviving to thriving during these difficult times.

Jhanelle is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and the supporting Mental Health Clinician for the Toronto Raptors. Jhanelle also works with various grass-root community organizations as a Mental Health Professional and individual clients through her Toronto-based private practice Jhanelle Peters Psychotherapy.

Cooking Demonstration and Nutrition Talk | 12:00pm-1:00pm | Register

Join us for a cooking demonstration of a warming autumn meal while learning more about health facts and tips.

While at work, and especially at a desk in front of a computer, we tend to hunch or round our shoulders, our heads jut forward from our neck as we are focus on the screen; and when we’re stressed it’s common we furrow our eyebrows, clench our teeth, or get headaches throughout the head or eye area from staring at a screen for too long.

This workshop is designed for releasing tension in the neck, head, and facial muscles. The exercises demonstrated through this class focus on relieving tension in the areas that are affected most by being at a desk, and sedentary for the majority of the day; leaving people feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and focussed for the rest of their work day.

Unwind in our lounge with colleagues while playing some fun online games. Having an internet-enabled cell phone or tablet device at hand will enhance your experience! 


Staff & Faculty Wellness Program

The Staff & Faculty Wellness program is an opportunity for staff and faculty to become aware of, develop knowledge about, and practice mindfulness for their overall health and well being. The program is intended to improve one's general well-being to impact both their professional and personal lives. 
 
Successful candidates will have attended at least 5 or more Lunch & Learn sessions and 10 weekly practice or monthly Community of Practice opportunities. Attendance will be verified using Zoom attendance reports. 
 
 
To complete the program, complete the Attendance Record (including the Goals and Reflection section) to oise.wellness@utoronto.ca.

Successful staff and faculty who complete the program will receive a $25 Indigo Gift Card.
