Peer Review Instructions
This document outlines general guidelines, as well as detailed instructions, for the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education 2024 Graduate Student Research Conference (OISE GSRC) peer review process.
To be eligible to be a volunteer abstract reviewer, you must:
Be currently enrolled as an OISE student or a recent alumni
Be willing to review abstracts on a volunteer basis and without compensation (this commitment will take approximately 1 hour)
Be available to provide feedback on presentation submissions during the peer review period: January 10th to January 17th at 23:59 EST.
Anonymized Reviews:
You may not review your own abstract or an abstract of someone with whom you may have a conflict of interest (i.e. you recognize your friend’s proposal)
Please contact us immediately if there is a conflict of interest: oise.gsrc@utoronto.ca
You must maintain confidentiality at all times. No portion of the abstract or its content may be used for for any other purposes
Step-by-step instructions for filling out the Peer Review Form:
As a volunteer abstract reviewer, you will complete one Peer Review Form for each of the four proposals you receive. The detailed instructions for filling out the form are as follows:
Question #1: Please enter your code
Your Reviewer Code has been sent to you in the body of the email in which you received the abstracts you will review.
Question #2: Please enter the abstract code written at the top of the abstract
You will find the abstract code highlighted at the top of the page of each abstract.
Question #3: Based on the requirements outlined in the Submission Guidelines, how would you rank this abstract overall:
Before ranking the abstract (1- poor, 2- needs improvement, 3- good, 4- excellent), please first confirm what presentation modality the abstract is for. Modality will be highlighted at the top of each abstract, along with the abstract code. Next, familiarize yourself with the Submission Guidelines for each modality. Each modality (i.e. paper, panel, poster) has its own set of criteria. You will rank a specific abstract based on its compliance with the overall criteria of a particular modality.
Question #4: Please provide the submitter with feedback: what were the strengths and weaknesses of the proposal? What should they keep in mind for their presentation in March? Please enter a minimum of 20 words.
You may want to comment on the content or the structure of the proposal. Please ensure that the feedback you provide is supportive and can help applicants improve their presentation or future proposals. Your anonymized feedback will be visible to applicants.
Do you recommend this abstract for inclusion in the 2024 OISE GSRC conference?
Based on your overall assessment of the abstract, please indicate whether you recommend or do not recommend this proposal for the 2024 GSRC. Please do not reject proposals due to the abstract surpassing the word limit – make a note in the comment section instead.
If you have any questions, please contact us at oise.gsrc@utoronto.ca or respond directly to the member of the Program Committee who sent you the abstracts.
Thank you for serving as peer reviewers!
