About Dr. Lance McCready

Making Spaces Lab is led by Dr. Lance T. McCready, Professor in the Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education at OISE, University of Toronto.

Dr. McCready is a researcher, educator, and community-engaged scholar whose work focuses on the education, health, and social well-being of Black families, youth, adults, and communities. His scholarship examines questions of access, equity, youth transitions, belonging, and community well-being, with particular attention to how people navigate educational, health, and social institutions and systems. His work brings together community-engaged and participatory research, education and training, mentorship, program development, and evaluation to develop culturally responsive approaches to improving educational, health, and social outcomes.

His research and leadership emphasize building meaningful partnerships between universities and communities and translating research into programs, practices, interventions, and opportunities for community learning, capacity building, and social change. He is the author of Making Space for Diverse Masculinities published by Peter Lang and is Principal Investigator of the Black Student University Access Network and Restorative Justice African, Caribbean, Black Family Group Conferencing Project. He is the 2018 recipient of the Distinguished Research Scholar Award from the Ontario Education Research Symposium.
