Argentina's national narrative has been built on the myth of European immigration, but contemporary dynamics demand a rethinking of our social composition. Through twenty-one individual stories, this book documents the reality of those arriving today from regions marked by conflict and structural instability: the Venezuelan exodus forced by the political crisis, Russians fleeing military mobilization and censorship, Syrians displaced by a devastating civil war, Chinese caught in rigid debt and trade networks, and Senegalese who maintain a migratory tradition based on a strong work ethic and religious rites. Although informal employment, economic instability, and the recent tightening of immigration regulations make their lives precarious, they also find in Argentina a largely open society where they can enjoy a degree of freedom and personal security. The discourse of external threat imported from developed countries compels us to observe the city through the eyes of the "other" in order to reconsider the validity of rights once believed to be universal within the national territory. This book is an invitation to understand that the history of those who arrive defines who we are.
