17th Annual Summer Institute

Innovations in Support of a Professional Early Childhood Workforce

Event Cancelled

In light of the growing concerns with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic we regret to inform you that the June 5th Summer Institute has been cancelled.

The Summer Institute is an annual collaboration between the School of Early Childhood at George Brown College and the Atkinson Centre for Society and Child Development at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto. The Institute strives to offer timely information to inform early childhood research, policy and practice.

ECE requires consistent pedagogical practices, ongoing assessment, and coherent professional learning that builds on foundational knowledge and continued professional development. These elements work together to improve outcomes for children and families.

The 17th Summer Institute examines innovative practices and approaches that support the early childhood education workforce.

Keynote Speaker

Hanna Melnick

Announcing this year’s keynote, Hanna Melnick, of the Learning Policy Institute, California and co-author of Promising Models for Preparing a Diverse, High-Quality Early Childhood Workforce

The first years of a child’s life provide a foundation for long-term health and well-being. As states consider policy proposals to update credential or degree requirements for early childhood educators, they can look to promising programs and policies that recruit and prepare diverse cohorts of educators to teach in early childhood education programs. Hannah’s study includes case studies of distinct approaches offering innovative, affordable pathways to preparation for diverse candidates.
