Job/Project Title

Moral Development and Academic Cheating

Job Description

As a Research and Development Graduate Assistant (R&D GA), you will assist with a series of studies and reviews examining the relationship between children’s moral development and students’ cheating behaviours, and how to utilize those factors to promote academic integrity in students.

Duties

1. You will conduct relevant literature review on moral development and academic cheating.

2. You will conduct studies examining children’s cheating behaviours.

3. You will be involved in data entry, statistical analysis using SPSS (e.g., descriptive statistics, ANOVA, regressions, logistic regressions) and analyzing the looking patterns and factors of cheating behaviours.

4. You will participate in lab meetings and in training sessions to acquire the necessary skills for the current project. Such meetings include regularly scheduled Lab Meetings at 10am on Fridays.

5. You will be involved in the manuscript writing of the project findings

6. You will supervise and train an undergraduate RA (10%)

Job Location

Some work will be conducted at OISE in the lab, and some work will be conducted online.

May 1, 2024—August 31, 2024

Required Skills

A good foundational understanding of academic cheating, academic integrity, and child development. 1-2 years’ leadership experience is a must.

In addition, the applicant should demonstrate strong communication skills, good telephone demeanour, strong research skills (conducting studies, interacting with participants, administering psychological tests or research tasks, and applying various data collection methodologies) solid understanding of statistics and SPSS, strong analytical and critical thinking skills, well organized, diligent, & conscientious.

Evening or Weekend Work

Occasional evening and weekend work will be generally required. 

Eligibility 

  • To hold an R&D GA, you must be registered as a full-time student at OISE in an eligible program.
  • Masters students (including MA, MEd, MT, and MA-CSE) students are eligible to hold a R&D GA in the first 2 years of their program.
  • MA-SCCP students are eligible to hold an R&D GA in the first 3 years of their program.
  • Full-time doctoral students (PhD, EdD) are eligible to hold an R&D GA in the first 6 years of their program.
  • Flex-time PhD students are eligible to be considered for a GA or R&D GA once during the first 5 years of their program and must be pursuing full-time studies as per the CUPE 3902, Unit 7 Collective Agreement.
  • You are not eligible for an R&D GA if you are holding a combination of scholarships, fellowships, OISE-arranged teaching assistantships, OISE-arranged course instructorships and/or research assistantships greater than or equal to the value of a full R&D GA during the academic year (September-August)
  • You may not hold a Graduate Assistantship (GA) and an R&D Graduate Assistantship (R&D GA) at the same time
  • For Fall/Winter, Fall, and Winter contracts, students who are full-time employees at the University of Toronto or elsewhere, are ineligible to be considered for R&D Graduate Assistantships under the CUPE 3902, Unit 7 Collective Agreement. Full-time employment is defined as 35 hours per week, or where different, the number of hours specified in an employee's contract as full-time employment.
  • Appointments are conditional upon a student being legally authorized to work in Canada by virtue of having a Social Insurance Number and Canadian issued study permit by the commencement date of the appointment or, at the latest, within one month following the commencement date of the appointment.  Students will need a Canadian bank account in order to receive remuneration.

Full-time students may not concurrently hold a Graduate Assistantship and a Research and Development Graduate Assistantship. 

Research Development Graduate Assistantships (RDGA) are remuneration for graduate students who are engaged in research and/or field development-oriented projects contributing to their academic and professional development. The wage rate for a 2024 Summer RDGA is $6,691.43.
