Wi-Fi Access for Guests
If you are visiting a U of T campus but do not belong to an institution that participates in the eduroam network infrastructure, you can connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi at UofT by texting a request to the number specified in the instructions below and getting a set of Wi-Fi credentials for today (the credentials are valid only for the day on which they were created).
Text (SMS) Keyword
92utoronto
To mobile number
18333387626
Only valid on:
7 May 2026
You will receive your temporary Eduroam login credentials via text message.
Your mobile number will be retained for 270 days. Please see https://uoft.me/eva-privacy
Troubleshooting:
If you’re unable to log in on your first attempt (for example, you’re not prompted to enter a username and password), try the following steps:
- Open your Wi-Fi settings and locate eduroam in the list of networks.
- Right-click (or tap and hold) on eduroam and select “Forget” or “Remove network.”
- Turn your Wi-Fi off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
- Select eduroam again from the network list.
- When prompted, enter your username and password, then connect.
If you’re still not prompted for credentials or can’t connect after this, restart your device and try again. If the issue persists, contact your institution’s IT support.
If you’re able to connect on your phone but cannot connect your laptop even after trying the steps above, please use your phone as a personal hotspot so you can continue working.
By design, UofT doesn't have the workflow exposed to guests and a visit to the page will trigger a 403 Error whenever a device that's not connected to a UofT network tries to access it.
Therefore, only a U of T faculty or staff member can provide you with details to access to the eduroam Visitor Access (eVA) guest Wi-Fi by visiting eva.eis.utoronto.ca from a computer connected to the U of T network, UTORvpn. On the eVA website, the faculty of staff member, will find a phone number and a unique passcode that is updated daily. You may also find the information on departmental electronic signage for events that is updated on the day of the event.
The process then is very simple, the staff member will be able to give you a unique keyword to text to a phone number and get a set of credentials for the eduroam network.
U of T faculty and staff with valid UTORid credentials can create up to five unique guest users at UofT which also work as Wi-Fi credentials. The duration of these credentials is valid for a maximum of up to five (5) days. This can be done through the Guest UTORid tool by any staff or faculty member.
The eduroam network at U of T is accessible to visiting scholars from other participating eduroam institutions. You should be able to simply connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi network using your home institution credentials.
Ideally, before leaving your home institution, check that your device can connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi network. If you encounter any issues, contact your institution’s help desk for assistance since we have no ability to troubleshoot external credentials at UofT.
